Red Bull Flugtag

Manlab's

A team of Manlab employees traveled to Ottawa in August 2008 to take part in Red Bull Flugtag, a national competition that combines performance, aeronautics, and a whole whack of energy drinks.

Background
Manlab President Dan Choy wanted to orchestrate a team-building exercise that would help Manlab employees taking a project from conception to completion. Younger staff would be introduced to the design process, and would research, analyse and prototype designs along the way.
   
What We Did
The Manlab team came together and brainstormed 85 possible concepts for the flying machine. The winner was based on the patient from the legendary Operation board game. In their spare time, Manlab employees convened in Dan's garage, piecing together the craft and subjecting it to rigorous testing. 

Results
Operation Red Bull craft operator/Manlab programmer Brent Cross bruised an eye socket, and various Manlab employees developed an unhealthy (although temporary) addiction to Red Bull.
